Cottage, Reimagined

Old Saybrook, CT

2018

This 1920’s beach cottage, which serves as a gathering place for neighborhood families, was sensitively renovated to preserve it’s period charm. Vinyl siding was removed and the original ‘novelty’ siding below it repaired. The small sunroom received a continuous band of windows. A dormer and cupola transformed the loft bedroom from cramped and airless to spacious, bright, and airy. The kitchen saw daylight tripled, cabinets preserved, and wall finishes upgraded. The garage was converted into a playhouse and tied to the house by a large patio. The obstructive deck was replaced with a modest-sized, pergola-covered one.
